When hunger strikes, there’s no better lifesaver than an easy snack recipe that is devoid of the inconvenience of making a full meal. This is especially true for kids seeing as a nutritious quick fix for hunger is the best option and if prepared with the right ingredients can fill you up until the next meal of the day.
Caramel Popcorn
Just melt 1 tablespoon of honey with 1/3 of a cup of butter and a pinch of salt. Mix up 1 cup of pecan nuts with 12 cups of popcorn and spread it on a baking sheet lined with parchment then proceed to bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes. When they’re ready to toss, do so until they become cool
Smoothies
These must be the easiest snack you can make in your kitchen, just grab some fruits even frozen ones, some yoghurt or milk and blend until it’s smooth. The good thing is smoothies are really filling and are packed with nutrients so you don’t have to worry so much about calories.
Baked Kale Chips
Just sprinkle salt and olive oil onto fresh kale leaves and bake for about 10 minutes or so and you’ll have your healthy crispy kale chips ready.
Ants on a Log
This popular go-to snack is quite easy to make and not to mention healthy as well. Just slather some peanut butter (or any other nut butter) onto one side of a celery stick and put some raisins on the buttered side of the celery to create the effect of ants walking on a log.
Cheese straws
Combine shredded Cheddar Cheese and ½ a cup of softened butter in a bowl, blend some salt and a cup of flour in and roll up the mixture into balls. Roll these balls into snake-like shapes which you’ll then cut into ‘straws’. Bake them until they’re golden brown or for roughly 8 minutes.
Apple Quesadillas
In a skillet, melt some butter and lay a flour tortilla in, top it up with grated cheddar cheese and on the side place a thinly sliced apple. Fold this tortilla in half and cook on both sides until golden, when done cut it into wedges.
Salsamole
Mix 2 smashed avocados, ½ a cup of lime juice, chopped cilantro and 2 tablespoons of lime juice and salt to taste. Serve with tortilla chips and you’re good to go.
